Warty Tummors in the eyes

Postby jhr2678 » Mon Oct 19, 2009 7:25 pm

I have two breeding age ASF rats, one of whom (the female) has developed some wart like tissues around her eyes. i did try treating these with anti-biotics though that did not help.

On the right side one of the tummery things has gotten so big that it appears as if it is hindering her eye sight, and is painful and may pierce through the skin.

These are kept as pets (i do not feed them to snakes, and i did breed them once but after that seperated males and females) and was intrested in knowing if there is any way to treat the growth on the eyes of the rats, or if it more beneficial to me to have her put down and stop her suffering.

That sounds very much like "Mastomys natalensis Papillomavirus (MnPV)" to me.

So anti-biotics are useless with this. Only thing you can do, is put animals down, if the tumors gows in areas or to a size, that affects and hurt them to much.

For more on this read her:
Scroll Down to "Tumors"
I had this twice but both animals where very old, as they got this, one female that was almost 2 years of age (tumors where on the belly), and one male that was between 2 and 3 years old (warty tumors around the eyes).

greetings,
Natasha
